Exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 5th July - 5th September
Open is a biennial collaboration between Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and Wolverhampton Art Gallery, celebrating the vibrant talent of the art scene in the West Midlands and allowing regional artists the chance to show their work at these prestigious venues.
Submissions are now being called for from artists living in Birmingham and the West Midlands region (incorporating Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire) to take part in the first ever Open West Midlands exhibition.
The deadline for entries is 28th May, works will be selected by an independent panel of Judges and the top prize will be £1000

June’s Out of Hours, a socialising event for people in the cultural sector based in the West Midlands, will take a look at illustration and in particular the work of Sarah Ray, whose quirky, funny images have appeared in a number of magazines and have been commissioned by high profile clients including Orange and Artgroup. Sarah will be introducing her exhibition Good Day, which will be on show in Lock Works.

Two new courses are being launched at the Dovecotes Arts Centre:
DJ Workshop
A 3-week course starting from 12th June.
The workshops are ideal for begginers or improvers and will include learning to set-up decks, beatmix vinyl, scratch and recording personal mixes.
Cost: £5 per week
Bronze Arts Award
A 12-week course starting from 29th July.
The Bronze Arts Award is a level one qualification and has one unit called Enjoying the Arts. The award involves taking part in the arts, visiting arts events, researching influential artists, then sharing skills with others. Participants record their achievements in a portfolio, including personal reflections on work they have done, seen or been a part of. Work can be presented in a variety of ways such as making a folder or sketchbook, video diary or website. Progression onto the Arts Award Silver is encouraged once the Bronze level course is successfully completed.
Cost: £36 for entire course.
